Perspectives on the snow-clad mountains and streams. The natural beauty and remarkable grandeur of the Deosai fields have made it world-famous. Spread over an area of 3,000 square kilometers, at a height of 13,500 feet above sea level, the fields are home to unique species of plant and animal life, with the Himalayan Brown Bears being the most famous. In the words of Leister Crowley, "Before us lay the Deosai, a completely treeless wilderness of equally flat land outlined by minor peaks. It gives an extraordinary impression of desolation." Toward the south of, and visible from both the Burji and Sadpara regions, is a 700-foot hill, on top of which stands a 500-foot-high rock cairn. This unnamed ridge in the northern Deosai region offers a clear view of the Himalayan Kangri range and parts of the Karakoram. As you climb its gentle, grass-covered slopes, Nanga Parbat will appear far to the west. "Where we could see three or four score miles north, south, east, and west, and see only mountains, and most of them over 20,000 feet, the Sierras seem like sand dunes." The park remains covered by a white sheet of snow from November to May, and it is only in the summer months that one has the opportunity to visit the park.
The snow season is from mid-December to the beginning of March. This uninhabited alpine grassland has numerous clear streams with unusual snow trout. There is also a large lake there.
It is snow-covered for most of the year, and there are various slopes here. The best option for crossing the Deosai Plateau in winter is through ski traversing. You will ascend by trekking or hiking, and then you may also ski. There are more options available.
